Does Medicare Cover the Wegovy Pill? (2026 Cost & Bridge Program)
One of the most common questions we hear is, “How much does the Wegovy pill cost?”
The answer depends on which Medicare coverage pathway you qualify for.
For qualifying beneficiaries enrolled in both Medicare and a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program offers covered oral GLP-1 medications—including Oral Wegovy® and Foundayo®—for a flat $50 per month.
Qualifying isn’t based on Medicare enrollment alone, however. First, you must meet the Bridge Program’s eligibility requirements. If you have certain medical conditions—such as type 2 diabetes, established cardiovascular disease, moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, or other conditions for which GLP-1 medications are already covered under Medicare Part D—you generally wouldn’t receive your medication through the Bridge Program. Instead, those prescriptions would typically be processed through your existing Medicare Part D benefit.
That’s why every consultation begins with a careful review of your medical history, current diagnoses, Medicare coverage, and treatment goals. Our goal isn’t simply to prescribe a medication—it’s to help you understand which pathway applies to you and recommend the treatment that makes the most clinical and financial sense.
If you qualify for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, eligible GLP-1 medications are available for $50 per month. Patients who don’t qualify may still have access to lower-cost brand-name medications through manufacturer direct-pay programs such as NovoCare® and LillyDirect®, depending on the medication and eligibility.

Under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, qualifying beneficiaries pay a flat $50 per month for covered GLP-1 medications, including oral options.
Does Medicare cover the Wegovy pill?
It depends on why it's being prescribed. Standard Medicare Part D does not cover GLP-1 medications when they are prescribed solely for chronic weight management. However, if Wegovy is prescribed to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death in an adult with established cardiovascular disease who is overweight or has obesity, it may be covered through your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. For Medicare beneficiaries who do not already qualify for Part D coverage and who meet the eligibility requirements for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, eligible oral GLP-1 medications are available for $50 per month.
Is oral semaglutide the same as Wegovy®?
Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Wegovy®. Today, semaglutide is available in both Oral Wegovy® (a once-daily tablet) and Wegovy® (a once-weekly injection), both approved for chronic weight management. Think of it like acetaminophen and Tylenol®. Acetaminophen is the medication; Tylenol® is one brand name. Similarly, semaglutide is the medication, while Wegovy® is the brand name.
